Experience the atmosphere of the airport in its key moments

1937

The airport has 3 unpaved grass strips. During the first year, it handled more than 13,000 passengers.

1939

March 15th, 1939, the German take over the airport and all air traffic was canceled. The Germans will manage our airport for next 6 years.

1940-44

The airport serves the Luftwaffe and also German military air schools which train new pilots here, resulting in a lot of minor accidents.

1945

1947

Curiosity from the game

Bus

In the early years of the airport, passenger handling was a bit different comparing to today. The passengers were checked in Prague at the airline office and were transported by a special bus directly to the Prague terminal.

Beacon

The airport beacon, whose light range was 50 km, served to locate the airport in low visibility and at night. Pilots could easily find the airport and avoid any complications.

Tanker truck

The aircraft consumes a huge amount of fuel on its way. It needs to be refilled before the next departure. An important role in this was nearby Kněževes village, where the tankers went to refill.
